It's not fair!

It's not fair!

Sexism is discrimination based on a sex. It's an ideology that one sex is superior to another and it exist from the distant past. Many years ago, almost all societies were patriarchal. Men had more power than women. Women couldn't vote, be politicians and religious leaders, they couldn't have education and work. But in recent times, we observe a lot of changes: women gain women's suffrage (the right of women to vote and be elected), legal and social quality of women and men.

From ancient times men and women had absolutely different gender roles: man was the head of the family and a breadwinner, he was providing for his family and woman was a householder: she was cooking food, cleaning house and taking care of children. Do we still need gender roles? Personally I think, no. Women are more likely to do the housework and raise the children, but If a woman want to go to work and a man wants to stay at home, do household chores and take care of their children, there is nothing wrong with it and we should let them do what they want to do. We are different people who have different interests, so why do we have to do that our gender prescribe us?

Unfortunately, gender stereotypes still exist. People think that men are more stronger than women and women are weaker and needs men's support; men are smarter and more logical than women; women are more emotional and they can't do a hard work. There are a lot of problems which a woman faces in modern society: women are likely to be paid less, it's harder to get prestige job, more men are elected to political office and many religions do not accept women as leaders. It's not fair!

Actually, sexism applies not only to women but also to men. Men should go to army, they have a higher retirement age and, unlike women, subject to the death penalty.

To sum up, I would like to say that discrimination is one of the most important problems of our society and we need to fight against it!
