Do we still need gender roles?

Do we still need gender roles? I don't think so.

It's not a secret that society's expectations for men and women are different. Women are supposed to stay at home, cook, clean, take care of the children and are not allowed to have a job, while men are usually expected to be the head of the household. However, the society is changing, men's and women's roles are changing. That's why I believe that gender roles are not as important to society as they once were.

From my point of view, to say that a man or a woman must behave a certain way is not fair. Just because you're biologically different from another gender doesn't mean you should play a certain role in society. If someone wants to do something, let them do it. People should be able to choose what they want to be, to decide their own future. We are all born equal in dignity and rights. It doesn't make you any less of a man if you cleaned the house nor does it make me any less of a woman if I repaired a car. We are no longer in the Middle Ages, gender roles and stereotyping are long gone. Nowadays women should have a choice in what they do. They should have the opportunity to get an education and a job. If a woman wants to stay at home and serve her husband, that's her personal choice but in no way should that be expected. People who think otherwise are simply forcing their beliefs.

In conclusion I'd like to say that personally, I think gender roles are unnecessary. Each gender is equally capable, so it would be easier to just share the roles and cooperate. People shouldn't be judged by their gender when they can be known for who they are. That's why we should teach the new generation that gender has nothing to do with what we choose to do in life.
