When we say "gentleman" most people imagine a typical 19th century man wearing a stovepipe hat and a tailcoat. Not many of us would imagine one of our neighbours or classmates, right? So, do gentlemen actually belong to a different generation? Is it possible to meet them nowadays?
Firstly, gentleman, in its modern meaning, is someone who is always respectful and kind to others. He would never say anything mean or mistreat someone. However, he does it not to get society's adoration or approval - he does it because of his own beliefs, the right education and manners.
Gentlemen are mature enough not to curse or speak vulgarly, especially to women. They tend to avoid fighting but if it's just needed, they will stand up for their girlfriend, relative etc. Also such men are always ready to help. As for me, this is one of the most important aspects of being gentlemen. It could be an old lady in the street that got lost or a problem of their close friend - gentlemen would help both of them without a doubt.
I believe that nowadays people like that exist and, personally, I've seen a lot of examples of the behavior I described. Gentlemen were, are and always will be highly needed in our lives. No matter which century it is.
